How to Beat Cravings for Heroin and Opiate Drugs

October 20, 2017ArticlesNo CommentsQuit the habit

The most important way to beat cravings is to switch your thoughts.

If you have ever cared for a young baby who cried and cried, you will find if you make a noise or a new movement, you will get their attention and they will stop crying.

You have just distracted them.

You need to do that to yourself. When you get the craves, shift your thoughts and think about anything else.

In time, it will become second nature and it will be a natural reaction.

Ways to Force the Distraction?

  • Excercise – you are not going to be thinking about the craves when you are doing pushups, jumping jacks or running around the block
  • Eat – eating something you absolutely love is a great way to shift your focus, further, hunger pains can frequently bring on the craves so make sure you eat 3 square meals a day
  • Call a family member or friend – contact someone you know to get support or join our chat room. Just chatting with someone who cares can help
  • Help someone else – helping someone else who is going through the same thing will help you with your craves. You can do this by going to meetings or joining our chat room

The most important thing about your recovery is your commitment. Once you have decided in your head that you are in recovery. The rest is easy. You now stop debating whether you will or not.

I quit with you today.
